My husband and I are trying to have a baby, and we keep talking about baby names. We can not agree on one single name. I like newer more original names and he likes all different types of names except the ones I like. Can you please help me pick out a name. The name i like the most gets 10 points. Girl= lluvia (means rain in spanish I love it, the first three letters sound like the word Jew "LLU" and VIA sounds just like pronouncing "via" in english)
I think a good first name is paired well with the Surname. They should not be too similar, but should share elements. For example the first name can have two syllables with two similar vowel sounds, and the Surname can have two syllables and two vowel sounds different from the first but matching eachother... Such as Adam Kenwell.

Or if the Surname is short, it can appear to be derived from the first... Best example of that might be Calvin Klien.. Phonetically the Surname is nearly an abreviation of the first.

So, since I don't know the surname I haven't a clue for you, but here is another thought. Include 'worth' in the first name to give them high self-esteem and confidence. Examples are, Ticklesworth, Picklesworth, Snugglesworth, and Gigglesworth.

Moon Unit - This peculiar baby girl name comes to us thanks to Frank and Gail Zappa. If the Zappa's were looking for publicity with this name, they have certainly received more than their fair share. Many countries would include this name on their list of illegal baby names!

Fifi Trixibelle - The first name Fifi is bad, but paired with Trixibelle makes it even worse. Paula Yates and Bob Geldof should have known better.

Satchel - This name was chosen by Mia Farrow and Woody Allen for their one biological son. It doesn't seem so odd to those baby namers in the states, as one of baseball's best pitchers of all time was named Satchel.

Apple - Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin chose the name Apple for their little girl and the world will never be the same. Yikes.

Daisy Boo - Jamie Oliver, also known as The Naked Chef, and his wife Julia should stick to cooking. These two names together leave much to be desired.What do you think of these celebrity baby names?

Here in rainy old UK we can report that Chelsea has just about taken off but not Brick Lane, Neasden or Hartlepool.

I love River Phoenix. It goes really well together. I love finding out who's going to name their baby what. I can't believe what Katie Price aka Jordan, and Peter Andre called their daughter...Princess Tiammi or something... what drugs is she on?

I think people should consider the child as he/she grows older and is subject to teasing about how unusual their name is.

Daft and pretentious. Many of them are so illiterate they don't know what some of the names mean and their connotations. Fancy naming your child after a place and a bridge! Wouldn't be surprised if one of these air-heads named their child 'Cocaine' or 'Heroine'. After all, one famous drinks manufacturer named its drink after a stimulant snorted by celebs.

1. Timothy 6 It is a good, Biblical name which has been around forever.However, I have never ben drawn to it. I just do not find it very masculine. I think the Tim and Timmie association has caused that.However, I knew a Timothy who was a sweet guy. It just does not appeal to me. No offense meant.Many will love it

2. Garett 8/10 Masculine, strong and powerful. It is a name with presence and would work fantastically on an adult .

3. Franklin This is one of those names where it is person's association. I associate it with people who are more around the ages of 60 or 80.So, it doesn't sound youthful to me. The name will always be around and accepted, though.Also, I have never been a fan of Frank sounds 6/10

4. Frederick 5 This is my personal experience, so I am biased, I knew one and he was full of kak. The Fred names have always been names that I have neither hated not have I been drawn to. However, it can be be perceived as regal and a timeless classic

Gigi Belle - I think Gigi should be kept as a nickname, because I can't see a top lawyer or doctor or businesswoman names 'Gigi'. I think Georgia or Georgina should be her first names and Gigi should be kept for home use. Belle is a cute middle name.

Zaarah - Is spelt horribly! Either Zarra or Zara.

Mia-Rose - Is cute but personally I hate double barrelled names and I think it should be Mia Rose.

Vivienne - Is too old fashioned, maybe Angelina Jolie can get away with calling her child that but honestly, no one else can.

Hayden - Is nice.

Ruiz - I don't think is even a name, if I have trouble pronouncing it, then so is everyone else your child comes across.

Francois Gerrard - Is nice but if your not french don't call your child this.

P.S. I know you like different names but taking a common name and changing the spelling doesn't make it unique or different, for example 'Zaarah'.What do you think of these baby names?
Gigi Belle is OK if the child stays a child forever, which just isn't going to happen. Zaarah is exactly like Sarah, so it's too common. Just because it's spelt different doesn't mean it's going to sound different. I love Mia-Rose, it's great for a child and adult. Vivienne is OK, but it's got to have a good middle name to make it work for me.

I like Hayden, especially for boys. Ruiz is alright. Trezois and Francois just sound too French and if you're not French it just doesn't work.What do you think of these baby names?

Samuel Oliver - This is really nice and classic, I love it.

- Samuel Oliver Jones - I LOVE Samuel AND Oliver, but not together. I especially love Samuel Parker!! or Oliver Heath!!

- Muriel Mae Jones - I highly dislike Muriel.. What about Miriam instead though? Miriam Mae is GORGEOUS!

- Bentley Miles Jones - I dont like Bentley that much, but Miles is cool. How bout Miles Alexander Jones? sounds better because the 's' at the end of Miles clashes with the 's' in Jones.

- Adia Leigh Jones - I like it a lot. I'd prefer Avia Leigh Jones (with the 'v',) but its very cute anyway.

- Langley Oliver Jones - Langley doesnt sound nice wen i say it. What about Lanley, or Landon? Once again, Oliver is great.

- Oriana Willow Jones - very unique, consider changing Willow to Wynter though. its just a nice name thats all.

- Addison Taylor Jones - I usually dont like the name Addison because of the 'Addy' nickname, but it sounds good with Taylor.

- Finlee Mae Jones - i hate the name Finlee. just because i know a finlee that i hate. lol.

I recently found out I am pregnant and so I am searching for baby names. If it is a boy I would like the middle name to be Thomas, after my dad. It seems to me that baby names are getting more and more far fetched and ridiculous. Does anyone else agree? I feel sorry for the kids when they grow up with the names some people come up with!Why are baby names getting more ridiculous?

Probably because they're copying celebrities. But as cultures are so mixed and everyone travels, people hear names they like and want their child to be special and stand out and not have run-of-the-mill names, although it helps if they give a child a 'normal' middle name, so they can be choose that when they get older!Why are baby names getting more ridiculous?

Yes, I agree to that. Sometimes I wonder where the hell they get those names!!!:-))) And some are really hard to spell and pronounce...Maybe they're just trying to get others attention with those names..

Different spellings do not make it any more or less unique. It just makes the kid get tired of spelling their names.

Sairah is still pronounced the same as every other Sarah out there. She'll just have to repeatedly spell her name and get tired of having mail sent to a wrongly spelled name.

Well, if you want the name to be unique, I usually like a pretty name, not commonly used but still okay to fit in with, with a different spelling. Like Kimmy. Kimmy is a pretty name, but the "y" on the end is too...original. I change it by substituting it with an "ie", so it becomes Kimmie. The name is more unique and perhaps even prettier too. :)

I like Sidney better because I hate the use of the letter 'y' as a subsititute for 'i's' or 'e's. I think it's so ugly (i.e. olivya, nataly, haydyn, etc etc etc).

I would say these spellings because I think they are the "normal" spellings. I would go with those because it would save your child having to spell her name all the time and correct people. It could eventually lead her to not like his/her name.

i have all three of my kids named after mine and my husbands family. So I know where you are coming from. We chose our first names randomly, and the middle names in reference to family members. We ended up choosing:

Dylan James Garry (James and Garry are our fathers)

Kane Bradley Skeet (Bradley and Skeet are our Grandfathers)

Amali May Dawn (May and Dawn are our Grandmothers)

so here are some suggestions(for a girl):

* considering the fact both your mothers have the same initials you could respect them both by naming the baby J_____ L_____ (last name)

*Jamie Lara (last name)

*____________ Jenna-Lee (last name

*(I personally do not think Jenna Jamie flows well enough to put together in a name)

Well, we were asked by the great grandfather to name our son if we ever had one after him... he has this horrible horrible middle name that I will never repeat hehe. Anyway I only gave it to my son as the middle name.. I said no way is he getting that as his first name.. My husbands whole family tried to pressure me into it even though his sister just had a boy last year and didn't name her kid that. Ugh!

If we have a girl ever we plan on doing her middle name my grandmothers middle name.. or if it's a boy we'll do MY grandfathers middle name as the babies middle name. Hope that makes sense.

The vikings have this old tradition that your child gets named after the last person who died, so as to carry their name on. I think thats nice.

Uhmm... I don't think it's disrespectful to use only one persons name, not at all.. maybe if its a boy your husbands family's name and if it's a girl.. your familys name? Afterall boys usually are named after their father or grandfather on the dads side and usually carry the fathers last name.

Please, please PLEASE I BEG YOU not to give your baby a native american name that you find in ANY baby book. If you want a name go to the website suggested above and pay for them to give you a name. Names are something pretty special. It is something to live up to or something to live down. And you don't want to have your child ridiculed because you thought you were naming them something wonderful like "pretty" and really name them after a venereal disease. And barring a native name I further beg you not to get "creative" in spelling or name any girl Mac-anything.

When picking out a baby name, you can't think of how cute the name is, but what it will look like in the future. For ex., If you choose a name like Brittany, look into the future, can you see yourself calling a 90 year-old woman Brittany? (haha, sorry for all the Brittany's!)

I suggest you check the link first for a pretty comprehensive list on Biblical names. It includes the obvious ones (Mary, Sarah, John, David etc...), but also tons of attractive Biblical names that aren't commonly in use nowadays. I'm sure there a lots you haven't thought about yet. That said I think you ought to look up for expample the French and Italian forms of common biblical names.

Here are a few examples of standard Bible names in other languages.

Why do people have to be so judgemental about baby names?Why are people so judge mental on baby names?
Because everyone is entitled to their opinion. And they're entitled to express it here, as long as they're not being profane or smutty or racist.

It's just as judgmental to LIKE a name, you know. But that doesn't bother you, for some reason.

So YOU are being judgmental of the people with negative opinions. Who are you to judge their opinions?
When someone posts the question, "What are your opinions on these names" or "Do you like these names", of course people are going to respond with their feelings.

There are many names I have expressed dislike for, but if I met a child with that name, I wouldn't be judgemental of the parents or child.

When I dislike a name on here, it's got nothing to do with people with the name, it's the fact that I personally dislike the name and wouldn't use it for one of my children.

People are judgmental by nature. Whether or not you can help it, you're always judging everything in your head. Everybody has different tastes in names, so of course they're going to have an opinion on a name, whether positive or negative.

Of course, there's a difference between being judgmental and flat out rude, BUT many people figure, if you ask a question be prepared to deal with the negative comments and opinions.Why are people so judge mental on baby names?
I think people are judgemental about baby names because there are some odd names for kids lately, and people don't think about the child having this name for the rest of their life. My mom always said that if you go to the back door and yell the kids name a few times, that will let you know if it is a good name for a child.
Because their trying to be that person to stick up for the unborn child, and try to prevent them being stuck with the bad name!

When I have a more negative opinion on someone's baby name, I feel bad for the child and I try to give them reasons as to why that name is a bad decision!

These are human beings were naming, and some people want to be so creative and unique that they forget that a person has to go through life with that name
If people ask what they think of this baby name I'm going to give my opinion and If I hate the name I'm going to say that I hate it. I really don't care what someone names their kid. It's not being judge mental its giving someone my opinion like they asked if you don't someone to judge it don't ask simple :D
People are judgmental because you are naming a human being, and some names are absolutely ridiculous. My friend's cousin named her son Hazard. Are you telling me that you wouldn't be judgmental over a name like that? And names with "you-neek" spellings such as Mahckynzye or Allyssibithe are NOT cute, they're just going to make life difficult for your child always having to spell out their names for people, and some of them (like Allyssibithe) will likely have a hard time knowing how to spell their names by the time school starts. Other names like Spike or Rex are often suited more for a dog than a human being. So many people these days are trying way too hard to give their kids weird names, not thinking that their child will be unique regardless if he or she is one of many in their class. A name doesn't make you unique, something that many parents these days don't seem to understand.
People are judgmental about everything. Plus, this is an anonymous public forum. People come here to get straight forward and honest opinions about names. If you are super attached to a name and don't want to hear any criticisms about it then don't come on here to ask what a bunch of complete strangers think. If an opinion is being asked for people will give it even if it's not what you want to hear so if you don't want to hear it then don't ask.
Judgmental links into honesty. And honestly if the focal-point of this forum! It's why so many people post on here when they could have just asked their family or friends - they (subconsciously) seek honesty and that is often not something one will receive from parents and friends since they're far more likely to sugarcoat in order to spare hurt feelings.

I personally don't like it when I'm told that my names aren't being well-received by some - but if they give valid explanations instead of just "I DUN LIKE IT! GROSS!" - then I sometimes reevaluate my opinion. And that's a good thing because, if you don't get reasoning's, or any judgment at all in some cases, then there will most likely be problems.

For example; a woman had twin girls and posted on this forum. Apparently she refused to listen to any sugarcoated opinions, had the twins, and named them Vagena and Vamajesty. No joke. And she regretted it seven months later after all the stick she had been getting. THAT is why people need serious answers!
People are not judgemental, they're just honest. If someone doesn't like the name you have picked out for a baby/book character/whatever, they will tell you, because at most it will be affecting another person for their entire lives.

You ask for opinions and we give them. Would you rather get an honest answer or have us all sucking up to you? (not "you" directly)
I have no idea. Seriously, let people name their kids what they want to, and stay out of it. It's not going to affect your life any. So please stop.
I'm not sure, but it's sad that people worry more what others will think of their baby names. We want everyone to like the name we pick.

If they don't like it, they want to fire off with some smart comment, making them look bad!!
